- To finish 1/ Rain staining the bus window my eyes matching pace while I try to think some happy thoughts like the self-help Amazon book told me like I practiced in the mirror as a scarlet snake crept inside my pupil, its tongue flicking along my insides, hearing the blood from my thoughts.
2/ I woke up yesterday in the clouds. Enveloped by a sea of hollow cushions, emptiness breathing into my pores inflating me like a big balloon, or oversized plush won from too many tries at the carnival.
3/ My hand was evicted from dirt. It told me I didn’t fit the vibe. Wasn’t dark enough, historied enough, dirty enough to be resident. My rent couldn’t be paid in pristine bills with stainless hands. So I go down to the mudpool, where the dirt has caked from a recent rain. I lather it all over, between my armpits and inside my ass cheeks and lining the walls of my nostrils. I shove it down my throat, praying to God that it won’t merely pass through, that it’ll solidify into the fabric of my being. I pretend.
