we met at the airport. a forlorn glance, a furitive look was all it took for me to break the unwritten rules of between spaces bridging a gap that’s meant to be empty i tooo your hand in mine, made you laugh with the cringey joke about the boy who hated the sterile smell of sanitizing alcohol,l and craved the comfort of a parental presence. i might have missed the punchline of the joke, but just as time moves sideways and space has the solidity of the sand in an hourglass, so too does the most mundane become funny in the airport
