talk by Geoffrey Parker, author of Platform Revolution
- platforms are about federated systems, where producers are not just from one singular source
- notable difference from pluralism and decentralization completely is that there is a core owner/singular entity in charge
- “assert control” if you lose control you lose control over the whole platform
- there is a core emphasis on ownership and control from a centralized, organized source (like apple)
- notable difference from pluralism and decentralization completely is that there is a core owner/singular entity in charge
- “regulated participation is very important or you get myspace”
- building infrastructure vs. point solution development

- this is very much in line with technological pluralism and decentralized web
- BUT very important is that this is a business-oriented frame and so a lot of the emphasis is on preventing other platforms from leeching off of you

- i.e. interoperability is not good
