- AI field vs empowering tools field (related #fa: tools for thought)
- one axis is that AI is trying to automate all humans (presumes malintent or negative belief that people aren’t capable of certain things) which is inevitable and the empowering tools direction is to cope with that aftermath to give people a purpose again
- another take is that both taken to the negative extreme are bad
- AI focused on machines learning to do what humans can do
- positive:: automate all the things humans don’t want to do (think self-driving cars, oil rigs, etc.) bc they are a waste of human potential
- negative:: automate everything bc humans can’t be trusted to do certain things and the bad humans aren’t capable
- empowering tools focused on what tools humans need to think, create, and connect better
- positive:: multiply people’s ability to do these things
- negative:: only some people are capable of being technical, either only focus on them or presume people will never be able to pick it up.. ehh but no-code tools can be phrased positively in that people shouldn’t have to pick it up
- they are complementary to each other, need to be able to automate tasks and let machines do the things that machines are good at and empowering tools are needed to give people the ability to create and do what they do best, connecting disparate ideas
- we need machines and humans to harmonize
- we are in drastic need of better empowering tools
- we also are in drastic need of better AI to automate and see patterns where we can’t see
- how can we take advantage of both to help people in every day lives?
- machines are good at
- storage
- calculations
- repeatable workflows
- what else?
