mini-essays https://coda.io/d/Blog-Posts_dYsYg7d1EIu/Creator-of-Vibes_su5oL#_luolA Nowadays, the creator economy is all the rage over helping every kind of skilled worker and hobbyist monetize their passion and creative works. Everything from photographers to cooks to writers to internet personalities are finding more and more ways to better connect with their audience (clubhouse, twitch), share out content (substack, ), and monetize their relationships with their followers (onlyfans, patreon, gumroad). This economy focuses on helping hobbyists monetize their side hustle, turn their passion from a side time investment to the stepping point to a sustainable lifestyle, which has accelerated the number of sustainable creators in the world. However, these have always focused on hard skills that people have traditionally made money on in actual professions—the barrier to entry has just been too high for normal people to make a living off of it sustainably.
- outline
- What is a creator of vibes?
- creates atmospheres and environments. things that are more abstract than normal creative works that are tangible and have meaning in people’s minds. This is a meta-construct that produces a space for people to do all those other creative works in. It’s a medium for communication and ideas to flow
- Normal creative works capture this to some extent in capturing the personality of people
- How do NFTs tie in here?
- something about them that tie into the idea of culture and vibes and atmosphere (scenius) in a sense that is different than normal cultural works? Like historical pieces of literature, there is also a historical culture context for which the pieces are situated and from which they derive a significant amount of meaning.
- Perhaps they are just different in the sense that NFT is fully owned by the creator rather than some foundation?
- idk maybe NFT is not a good contrast for this, maybe just use it as a nice example of the different kinds of things that people create
- how is this vibes angle different? is it just that it’s something that is not only situated culturally like a normal piece of creative work but also abstract in that it is an environment for people to work in?
- how can you accelerate creators of tools? creators of environments for creative works? how do you manufacture Situated Software around these things?
- Tools are nothing taken out of context of the community they are meant to serve. Revolutionary tools need to change culture. permanent [[jason yuan on Metamuse - Rethinking the OS#^dQipcX_G0]]
