- 2 systems: ordered systems and chaotic systems
- fear of chaos is being used to destroy creativity
- order is combined with excessive outcome-based targets when pursuing explicit targets, destroys intrinsic motivation
- there is a third type of system: complex adaptive system
- everything connected with everything else but not all connections can be known (dark matter, internet, humanity)
- boundaries + attractors
- manage attractors by giving more resources to the ones that are successful
- don’t treat ecosystem as engineering problem, treat as ecosystem problem
- people’s own voice needs to be subject to their own interpretation (not experts or AI or abstracted policy reports)
- We’ve never lived in a fact-based society
- using the community as ethnographers to their lives
- scale empowering people to tell their own story
- ability to abstract allows for scientific invention
- adjacent possible: a cluster of narratives near to where i am but going in right direction vector measure, dont measure outcome, measure vector
- what can i do to create more stories like these and fewer stories like that
- start doing small things in present than promising large things in future
